Whipsers, Books & Shouts

On Wednesday, May 31st the photobook gathering “Whispers, Books & Shouts” will take place at The Utrechtse Boekenbar conducted by photographer, independent editor and photobook lover Walter Costa.
Costa will explore his two big passions – photography and books – through the storytelling strategies of five books that were part of the last exhibition at FOTODOK “Whispers and Shouts. Voices of Ukrainian Women Photographers”.

FOTODOK launches a new program for talent: the FOTODOK TALENT EMBASSY. We provide an intensive program for selected emerging artists. With the Talent Embassy we do internationally what we are already doing successfully in the Netherlands: making talents visible and connecting them to a relevant network.

FOTODOK at Recontres d’Arles: HERE NEAR

HERE NEAR presents three projects on a series of layered and unfolding threats to the ecology of Arles and its surroundings. Since 2022, Mathieu Asselin (FR/VE), Tanja Engelberts (NL) and Sheng-Wen Lo (TW/NL) have each worked on site-specific research, addressing the effects of socioeconomic activities on local ecosystems and their inhabitants. The exhibition will run from July 3 to September 24, 2023 at Recontres d’Arles, France.

Ever since the start of FOTODOK in 2008, we have been working with photographers who are at the start of their careers. They are part of our group exhibitions, participants in our talent programs, they give workshops in our educational programs. Sometimes they are also involved as volunteers or interns or we work with them to develop our programs. We feel connected and remain interested in everyone’s development.

Whispers and Shouts – Voices of Ukrainian Women Photographers

Whispers and Shouts. Voices of Ukrainian Women Photographers gathers stories of war and displacement by artists of Ukrainian origin. Their projects address complexities of emotion, pain, loss, connections between people, and the trauma of being separated from home. Most of these stories reflect the artists’ personal realities – of losing close friends and family, of reuniting with relatives under new circumstances, of investigating their roots, or of experiencing motherhood in times of war.
