FOTODOK and Utrechts Centrum voor de Kunsten (UCK) are pleased to announce an evening with Donald Weber. On Friday 30 January, the award-winning photographer will present his latest projects: Barricade and War Sand.
Barricade – made in collaboration with the Ukrainian photographer Arthur Bonder – focuses on the Euromaidan revolution that began in November 2013. War Sand is a large-scale and detailed examination of the pivotal events that unfolded on the beaches of Normandy, where history and geology are united in the sands of the rugged coastline.
Following the presentation, Weber will be interviewed by Rob Hornstra, himself an acclaimed photographer and a long-time Utrecht resident. The two first met in 2012 at the World Press Photo awards, where they discovered a shared – and unconventional – attitude to their profession and a creative approach to funding long-term projects.
Their workshops on independent storytelling, which they give separately and occasionally together, are enormously popular among budding photographers. These and much more will be discussed – in English – in an evening filled with stories, images, practical tips and lively debate. Audience participation is encouraged.
