Op 27 januari 2021 organiseerde FOTODOK in het kader van Blurring the Lines 2020 de eerste internationale editie van Take Off: een digitale bijeenkomst tussen recente afstudeerders (BA & M(F)A) in de fotografie en experts uit het werkveld. De eerste editie van de Take Off vond plaats in juni 2020 en heeft een podium gegeven aan meer dan 60 afstudeerders van Nederlandse kunstacademies om hun werk te pitchen. Deze keer richtte FOTODOK zich met de Take Off op opkomend internationaal fotografie talent: de deelnemers, finalisten en winnaars van Blurring the Lines.
Blurring the Lines is een internationaal uitwisselingsprogramma voor recent afgestudeerde fotografie studenten. Dit initiatief is opgericht in 2016 door Klaus Fruchtnis en Steve Bisson, en werd voortgezet door het Paris College of Art (PCA), en partners Urbanautica, FOTODOK en het European Cultural Center. Blurring the Lines selecteert jaarlijks meer dan 60 fotografen om deel te nemen aan de FOTODOK Take Off. Het werk van ongeveer 30 finalisten uit deze groep wordt uitgelicht in een publicatie. En de winnaars krijgen daarnaast ook de mogelijkheid om hun werk tentoon te stellen bij het Paris College of Art tijdens Paris Photo. Daarnaast hoopt Blurring the Lines dialoog en connecties aan te wakkeren tussen verschillende kunstacademies wereldwijd.
Voor Blurring the Lines 2020 zonden 151 fotografen, afgestudeerd aan 38 verschillende academies wereldwijd, hun afstudeerprojecten in voor de Open Call. De Open Call richtte zich dit jaar op fotografie projecten die zich toewijden aan belangrijke hedendaagse sociale problemen met als thema ‘Commitment’. Uit de inzendingen zijn 62 beeldmakers geselecteerd waarvan 33 finalisten en 3 winnaars. De jury bestond uit Lisanne van Happen (FOTODOK), Steve Bisson (Urbanautica Institute) en John Fleetwood (PHOTO:).
Tijdens Take Off #2 presenteerden 42 fotografen hun afstudeerprojecten voor een diversiteit aan experts en andere geïnteresseerden uit het werkveld. Alle fotografen gaven korte presentaties over hun werk in ca. 3 minuten.
Take Off #2 vond plaats op 27 januari 2021 om 13:00, Nederlandse tijd (UTC +1).
Iedereen is uitgenodigd om zich in te schrijven voor toekomstige Take Off evenementen en om kennis te maken met recente afstudeerders in de fotografie. Wanneer je deel wil nemen aan dit evenement, stuur dan een mail naar takeoff@fotodok.org met daarin je naam, een beknopte functieomschrijving en waarom je geïnteresseerd bent om deel te nemen aan Take Off.
