What are the impacts of humans on the geography, ecosystems and landscapes they occupy? How can they be translated into pictures? When photographers capture traces of the Anthropocene era.

With photographers Mathieu Asselin, Sheng-Wen Lo and curator Daria Tuminas.
Here Near presents three projects on layered threats to the ecology of Arles and its surroundings. Since 2022, Mathieu Asselin, Tanja Engelberts and Sheng-Wen Lo have each worked on site-specific research, initiated during the art residency The Shelter organized by Annakarin Quinto. For the inaugural tour the artists Mathieu Asselin, Sheng-Wen Lo and curator Daria Tuminas will guide you through the exhibition.

HERE NEAR Celebration and FOTODOK’s Talent Embassy Projections
Be welcome to celebrate the exhibition HERE NEAR at Rencontres d’Arles and get ready to be inspired by projections with the work of the upcoming photographers of FOTODOK’s Talent Embassy.
19:30 You are invited for an aperitivo and a moment of speech with Mathieu Asselin, Sheng-Wen Lo, Annakarin Quinto and FOTODOK.
21:30 PROJECTIONS with works of Natassja Nefjodov, Julia Gat, Rick van den Klooster, Louisiana van Onna and Indra Gleizde.
The DJ will be playing 80s and 90s music for the entire evening to enjoy each other’s presence and have a celebratory dance.

Here Near presents three projects on layered threats to the ecology of Arles and its surroundings. Since 2022, Mathieu Asselin, Tanja Engelberts and Sheng-Wen Lo have each worked on site-specific research, initiated during the art residency The Shelter. Charting manufacturing, water systems, transportation and animal life, these makers reveal how the Anthropocene – an unfolding geologic epoch characterized by humanity’s acceleration – is reflected in local ecosystems.
