Voor Yana Kononova houdt oorlog niet op wanneer het geluid van explosies wegebt. Het blijft hangen, verzadigt het land en nestelt zich in de stilte van verwoeste landschappen. Het project Radiations of Wartraceert deze hardnekkige aanwezigheid in Oekraïne – niet als een documentair verslag, maar als een ontmoeting met een terrein waar de ramp zich na de impact voortzet.

Tijdens de opening van de solotentoonstelling Radiations of War van Yana Kononova wordt ook het eerste fotoboek van de kunstenaar gelanceerd. Zowel de tentoonstelling als het boek combineren de beelden van Kononova met poëzie van Joyelle McSweeney. Het boek is een uitgave van FOTODOK en XYZ Books en een deel van het Creative Europe initiatief Intergalactica: Books for Culture Without Borders.

The launch of the photobook take place during the opening of Yana Kononova‘s solo exhibition Radiations of War, hosted at Rotterdam’s WORM from 8 May to 15 June 2025. Both the exhibition and the photobook pair Kononova’s photographs with poetry by Joyelle McSweeney. The book is co-published by FOTODOK and XYZ Books. The project has been developed as part of the Creative Europe initiative Intergalactica: Books for Culture Without Borders.
